Chitwan Jungle Safari Highlights:

  • Venture into the depths of the jungle on elephant-back
  • Visit the elephant breeding center and take part in elephant bathing
  • Observe some rare species from among the hundreds while bird watching
  • Tour through the local Tharu communities and experience their unique culture

Explore the fascinating habitats and wildlife of the Chitwan National Park on elephant-back and observe the plethora of species of birds on our 2 day Chitwan Jungle Safari!

Spread out over almost a thousand square kilometers, the Chitwan National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Nepal. This conservation area is a sanctuary for over 700 species of wildlife, many of which are rare and endangered. Some of the fascinating wildlife you may encounter during your trek include the One-horned Rhinoceros, Gharials, Bengali Tigers, Clouded Leopards, Bengal Florican, Spotted Eagles and Antelopes among many others.

Our Chitwan Jungle Safari experience begins with a visit to the Elephant Breeding Center. You’ll be able to closely observe both the adult and baby elephants there. A popular activity that tourists like to take part in here is elephant bathing; although it is option if you don’t want it. Next up is the jungle safari; another exciting activity that can be performed via foot or jeep. We, however, will take the third exciting option and explore the variety of flora and fauna in the forests from the safety of an elephant’s back.

The second day offers a lot of fun possibilities as well. Pack some good binoculars and a camera as you’ll be starting the day with some bird watching. You might spot some of the rare resident species along with migratory birds that fly in all the way from as far as Siberia. For the afternoon, you can go for a session of canoeing in the Rapti River. Another option is to go on a guided tour through some of the local Tharu communities. They occasionally organize some cultural dances and performances as well which will be an interesting experience for newcomers.

Chitwan Jungle Safari Difficulty

The Chitwan Jungle Safari can be performed by pretty much anybody as it involves only minimal amounts of walking. A guide / park officer will be around at all times to help you out in case of any difficulty. Some other factors you need to consider for the Chitwan Jungle Safari are:

Elevation:

The Chitwan National Park is located under 1000 meters from sea level. As such, any elevation related issues are nonexistent for this tour.

Length:

Our Chitwan Jungle Safari can be completed in just 2 days. But of course, it is possible to extend the safari by adding other places/activities into the itinerary.

Best Season for Chitwan Jungle Safari

The Chitwan Jungle Safari can be performed all year long. However, if you are looking for the very best time for this experience, it would be during the spring and autumn seasons. This is because of the stable weather and good temperature that these periods offer compared to the other seasons.

My name is Pat Troeltzsch from Colorado, U.S.A., and I recently visited Nepal in January, 2020.  Pradibna Pokhrel became our guide, and he was wonderful!!  He met my son and me at the airport and then set up a proposed schedule to fit our time in Kathmandu.  We three visited all the main temples in Kathmandu, and each time he arranged for a driver, paid the museum/temple fees, and took us to wonderful restaurants where he knew the food would be delicious as well as safe.  Later in our stay he arranged a hotel in Chitwan National Park and found a package tour that suited our needs—bird watching in a dugout canoe, jeep riding in search of rhinos, and finally an elephant ride where we found several rhinos.

Pradibna has extensive knowledge of each of the temples as well as customs and history in Nepal.  He is completely trustworthy!!  We had a magnificent time with him and his beautiful daughter!
