As the name suggests, the Tamang Heritage Trek is a pleasant journey through the various Tamang villages in the Langtang region. It is a recently discovered cultural trail that offers a genuine insight into the ancient Tamang culture and lifestyle. Apart from the cultural aspect, the trail is also known for scenic views of Ganesh Himal and the Langtang range among others.
Our 10 day Tamang Heritage Trek beings with a drive to Syabrubesi, north of Kathmandu. The trails ahead pass through lush hills and rhododendron forest home to various species of wildlife. From Syabrubesi, we will trek through Gatlang to Tatopani, where you can bathe in its relaxing hot springs. Next, we will reach the highest point of our trek at Nagthali on our way to Thuman. Nagthali is popular as a meditation center for local monks, priests and Buddhist devotees in general. The next day, we will trek to Briddim, followed by a return trek to Syabrubesi. The homestay experience at Briddim will be a good opportunity to get a feel of the local culture and lifestyle. If you’re lucky, you might even get to witness the local cultural dances. The trek ends with a drive back to the capital.
The Tamang Heritage Trek is a moderate difficulty trek that is perfect for newcomers to get a feel of what trekking in Nepal feels like. With that said, experienced trekkers can also find fulfillment in the scenic views and rich culture of this trek. Some other factors you need to consider for the Tamang Heritage Trek are:
The trail lies below 3000 meters for the most part, making this trek suitable for winter trekking as well. Also, altitude sickness is generally not an issue on this trek.
The Tamang Heritage Trek can take anywhere between 10 – 14 days depending on the route taken. The trekking hours average out to around 5-6 hours of trekking per day.
