Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek follows the classic route in Khumbu region used by the early expeditioner. This route was used by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa during their first Everest summit expedition.

Jiri Everest Base Camp trek route offers an amazing networks of natural settings laden with tramping teahouses, all maintained by the loveable Sherpas. This trek involves lots of tramping on semi-mountainous terrain that’s pretty moderate to challenging but you are sure to get overwhelmed with an array of features that starts right from Jiri and as you make your way towards Junbesi, Nunthala, Jorsalle and Namche.

The Everest region houses some of the tallest peaks on earth and these mountains has intrigued us since time immemorial. Its dramatic high valleys, tumbling glaciers, turquoise lakes and lush flora and fauna have delighted one and all. But there’s more than all this; the brave Sherpas who settled here for centuries under the shade of towering peaks, believe Himalayas as abode of god and watching them performing ancient rituals dedicated to the peaks that surrounds them is an experience you probably don’t want to miss.

Jiri is a picturesque village to spend some magical time before tramping up to the base camo; known as the “Switzerland of Nepal. This trekking route displays some of the exotic landscapes that offers you a good insight of lower Khumbu region. In the first week, the trekking route goes through amazing terraced farmlands, exotic forest and middle-hill countryside. The trail offers basic facilities and plenty of time to acclimatize while observing the culture, tradition and life-style of the friendly and hospitable Hindu and Buddhist communities.

The Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek starts from comfortable altitude of 1,800m and passes numerous ridges: descending down to the river (1,500m) and climbing passes over 3,000m to join main-stream Lukla to Everest Base Camp Trail.

The trail then enters Sagarmatha National Park and climbs steeply to Namche: our first acclimatization spot. Beyond Namche, the trail climbs deeper into the mountains; while the night temperature drops and reaches the hilltop village of Tengboche. Beyond Tengboche, the tree line slowly gives way to alpine scrub and the trail becomes tougher yet dramatic.

A final acclimatization is scheduled at Dingboche. Then we make a gentle climb up to Lobuche, Gorakshep and along the desolate trial up to Base Camp. After second night at Gorak Shep, we make a pre-sunrise climb up to Kalapatthar which affords dramatic views of Pumori, Everest, the South Col, Nuptse, Lhotse and Makalu set amongst numerous other peaks.

The returning leg retraces the up-route more quickly (3 days) to Lukla; from where we catch an early morning flight back to Kathmandu.

Spring (March – May) and autumn (September – October) are the best time of the year for Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek. The weather during these months is pleasant and views are outstandingly clear.

A good pair of tramping boot, waterproof warm clothing (in layer), good sleeping bag, camera, personal sanitary and a hat are essential packing list for your trek in Everest region.
