Chisapani Nagarkot Hike is a short and easy trek perfect for those looking to get a feel of trekking in Nepal and enjoy breathtaking Himalayan scenery in a short amount of time. It is one of the most accessible hikes from the capital and also one of the most popular.
The 3 day hike begins with a short drive north of central Kathmandu to Sundarijal. An hour of hiking leads you past an army checkpoint into the Shivapuri National Park. This conservation area is home to over a thousand unique species of plants and hundreds of species of rare animals. It also supplies most of the drinking water for the valley’s residents. The first day’s trek ends at Chisapani, where you’ll be able to enjoy the scenic sunset view.
The next day, continue the trek through the pleasant forest trails to Nagarkot. Nagarkot is one of, if not THE best viewpoints near Kathmandu. On a clear day, you will be able to view the Himalayas stretching from Dhaulagiri in the west, through Everest, all the way to Kanchenjunga in the east.
For the final day, wake up early to witness the amazing sunrise view before beginning the trek to Changunarayan. Changunarayan’s origins have been dated back to over 1500 years and thus, it has some interesting myths and history behind it that you can explore. Finally, the hike ends as you catch a bus back to central Kathmandu.
The Chisapani Nagarkot Hike involves trekking for 5-6 hours per day over hilly terrain. As the trail is well defined and located at fairly low altitudes, anybody with minimal fitness levels can perform this trek and no prior trekking experience is required. Some other factors you need to consider for the Chisapani Nagarkot Hike are:
The trail for this 3 day hike is situated under 2500 meters. As such, most people won’t any issues regarding the elevation. Altitude sickness is also usually not an issue.
The Chisapani Nagarkot Hike generally takes 3 days to complete, although a few more days can be added via some changes in the route. The trekking hours average out to around 5-6 hours of trekking per day.
The Chisapani Nagarkot Hike is best performed during the spring (March – May) and autumn (September – November) seasons. These periods are perfect due to the moderate temperature, stable weather and clear skies. Monsoon is not a good time for this trek as the rainfall can make the trails quite slippery and dangerous.
