I chose the trek in Langtang-valley because it is easily doable in 7 days and because it is a good start to trekking in Nepal. Compared to other treks, it is not so demanding with a difference in altitude of about 2000 metres. And how did I come to Nepal Star-Treks? Well, that s a longer story. I have known Toya for many years as a good friend of my parents. They met 15 years ago when my parents made their first trip to Nepal together. This led to the founding of the NGO Nefa, which improved the educational opportunities in Toya s home village Betini. So it was clear to me that if I went trekking in Nepal, it would be with Nepal Star Treks and with Toya as my trekking guide. I think it s great that the trekking organisation uses part of its income for social projects. For example, for the education of children in rural areas or for the training of female guides. As a woman who was able to grow up with all the privileges, supporting women in difficult circumstances is very important to me. Looking back, the trek in Langtang-valley was incredibly beautiful. I felt well accompanied by Toya and was very grateful that he made it possible for me to communicate with the locals. Many of the people who work in the guest houses don t speak English very well and my Nepali is only a few words. But it was still possible to meet and get to know people because Toya helped as a translator. I was impressed by the remarkable life stories of the individuals. One encounter that particularly stuck in my memory was with 17-year-old Janchu, who was only able to go to school up to the second grade and is now a cook in a guesthouse in Langtang. I drew a portrait of her and gave it to her as a gift. It was nice to give something back for the warm hospitality. The most impressive moment for me was standing on Tjensin Ri (4200 metres above sea level) at 7 o clock in the morning and watching the sun rise. Suddenly, the panorama all around, up to 7000 metres high, was flooded with golden sunlight. The massive snow-capped mountains radiated an overwhelming warmth and tranquillity at that moment. That was the moment I knew that this would not be my last trek with Nepal Star Treks!
